Virginia Gryta, MS, worked in classrooms with children with disabilities for 14 years. She has spent the last four years at Hunter College, teaching and mentoring new teachers working toward master’s degrees and certification in special education. She also oversees Hunter’s online Learning Lab, a yearlong course in teacher supervision and training.
During her years as a public school teacher, she worked with students ranging in age from pre-kindergarten to adult, teaching students in self-contained classes as well as co-teaching in inclusive classrooms. She served on academic intervention teams and was responsible for professional development in several areas, training fellow faculty members in reading interventions, behavioral assessments and interventions, methods of math instruction, and other aspects of teaching students with learning disabilities.
Gryta received a BS in special education from Boston University and a master’s degree in special education from Hunter College. She was the recipient of the Elena Gall Memorial Award for Outstanding Scholarship in 2010.
