Video: The Challenges of Being an African American Who Learns and Thinks Differently

In this video, poet and activist LeDerick Horne shares his experience being an African American who learns and thinks differently. He talks about racial stereotypes and the pressure to be “flawless.” Horne also talks about the importance of finding heroes in your community to inspire your child. For him, it was his grandfather—a leader in the Civil Rights Movement—and Muhammad Ali.
