The Friday highlight: Support small businesses and diverse local communities

June 12, 2020

We know that 2020 has been a stressful year for employers, employees, and job seekers.

So here’s a snapshot of something we’ve found useful or motivating. Whether it’s a tip for how to stay on top of work, or something to take your mind off the news, we hope it’ll be a positive and helpful way to round off your week.

Disability inclusion work is crucial — and it can’t stand on its own. To be effective, any type of inclusion program must proactively embrace and promote differences of all kinds.

This week, we’re sharing Intentionalist, a small business directory to help you find and support small local businesses and the diverse communities behind them. For example, you can search for Black-owned, LGBTQ-owned, and disability-owned businesses in your area.

Intentionalist says:

“We make it easy for you to find local restaurants, bars, gyms, shops, and more owned by women, people of color, veterans, LGBTQ, families, and differently abled people. Beyond serving as a directory, Intentionalist supports community connection through business profiles based on interviews with local business owners, and meet-ups that provide the opportunity to meet them and learn about the stories behind their businesses.”

Search the guide to find small businesses in your community.

If you’re the owner of a small business, submit your business to the Intentionalist guide. You can also sign up for their email list to learn about future networking opportunities.
