Dr. Charles Sophy has dedicated his life to the physical and mental well-being of children and families from all walks of life. He is board-certified in three clinical specialties: adult psychiatry, child and adolescent psychiatry, and family practice. As the medical director for the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services, Dr. Sophy is responsible for directing the physical and mental health care for more than 40,000 children in foster care.
Dr. Sophy also maintains a private practice in Los Angeles. He is a clinical instructor at the University of California Los Angeles Neuropsychiatric Institute and at the University of Southern California in the department of psychiatry.
The remainder of his time is spent lecturing across the country to various health care professionals, medical students, social workers and parents, and discussing current events in a number of media outlets. He is the recipient of the 2002 Exemplary Psychiatrist Award, given by the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill.
