My son is 9 yrs old and in the 3rd grade. He hasn't been evaluated professionally yet, but he does have an assistant in some of his subjects at school and has most of his assignments modified. The main problem is that he doesn't know all of his letters when he sees them, he sometimes confuses letters with numbers, he doesn't know the sounds the letters make , he cannot read .....period. He is very good at math though. His sister whom is 7 reads better than most adults, which also effects his esteem. He often gets frustrated and gives up, calls himself dumb or stupid, it's really affected him in such a negative way. I want to help him, he's actually very smart and usually loves to laugh and make people laugh because he's very witty. I want to help him , but not sure what else to do...he's giving up and angry /frustrated most of the time lately. Any suggestions?
