FAQs
Common questions about the Understood Parent Coach and how it works.
Parent Coach is a new AI-enhanced tool from Understood that helps parents of kids with learning and thinking differences handle screen time transitions. You share a recent struggle, and it responds with personalized support and a strategy to try, in about 3 minutes.
Parent Coach is designed for parents and caregivers of elementary school-age kids — roughly 5 to 10 years old — who have learning and thinking differences like ADHD or dyslexia. If screen time transitions are a regular struggle in your house, this was made for you.
It’s a short, guided conversation. You describe a challenging screen time transition you’ve dealt with recently, and Parent Coach responds with a few things: reassurance for what you’re experiencing, a brief explanation of why screen time transitions are so hard for kids with learning and thinking differences, and a concrete strategy to try next time. If you create an account, you can also get a reminder to try your strategy and come back to troubleshoot how it went.
This is a beta, which means we’re starting focused so we can get it right before we expand. Screen time transitions are one of the most common and stressful challenges parents tell us about, so it felt like the right place to start. More topics are coming. Share your feedback directly in the tool or email us at info@understood.org.
Parent Coach uses AI to respond to what you specifically share. The validation and strategy you get are shaped by the details of your situation, not a one-size-fits-all answer.
The strategies are grounded in Behavioral Parent Training, a science-based approach used by therapists who work with families of kids with ADHD and learning differences. Parent Coach was developed in partnership with therapists and reviewed by mental health experts.
No. Parent Coach offers parenting strategies and support. It is not a substitute for professional care. If you have concerns about your child’s health or development, please talk to a doctor, therapist, or other qualified professional.
No — you can use Parent Coach without creating an account. But if you create one, you’ll be able to save your session and opt in to reminders that help you follow through on your strategy and come back to troubleshoot.
Yes, Parent Coach is free to use. All of Understood’s content and products are always free to use. No paywalls, no surprises.
We want to know. Since this is a beta, your feedback directly shapes what we build next. You can rate your experience inside the tool or email us at info@understood.org.
