Exploring whether to pursue a 504

What is a 504 plan?

Learn

  • Maybe a teacher brought it up, or a friend said it helped their child. Here’s what a 504 plan actually is.

A 504 plan removes barriers to learning for a student with a disability. It’s a formal plan that:

    • Tailors support so a student can learn alongside their peers in general education.

    • Provides that don’t change what a student learns, just how they learn it.

    • Can include a range of supports, from low-tech changes (like sitting near the teacher) to high-tech tools (like AI-powered text summaries).

Many kids have a 504 plan. It’s a common school support for kids with and other kinds of disabilities.

“I’m still learning, but it’s a good feeling to know that we have a 504 plan in place that’s helping my son.”
