Getting ready for a 504 meeting
What a 504 plan can look like
Learn
If you’re picturing a standard form all schools fill out, you might be surprised. There are no set rules for what a should look like, or what it should include.
Schools typically create written 504 plans. But they’re not required to. The only things schools have to put in writing are their policies on 504 plans.
You can advocate for your child’s 504 plan to include:
Areas of educational need
or services to meet those needs
The name of the person responsible for implementing each accommodation or service
How often each accommodation or service will be provided
are less common but can be included in a 504 plan too.

“For instance, my son likes to walk around the kitchen while he does homework at home. So, at school, as part of his 504 plan, he’s allowed to take movement breaks and walk during class.”
