Preparing for the evaluation

  • A special education evaluation involves a series of steps:

    • Agreeing on the evaluation plan

    • Gathering data, like test scores and discipline records

    • Using questionnaires to get a full picture of your child at school and at home

    • Testing by a psychologist to see how your child thinks and solves problems

    • Testing by at least one other professional, like a speech therapist

    • Observing your child in a classroom or other school setting

    • Discussing the findings and deciding if your child qualifies for an IEP
