Hi,

There's really no link between speech disorders and attentional difficulties: the real connection is understanding language disorders and attentional issues. Language disorders are also language based learning difficulties: these students can have difficulty with oral expressive language, receptive language, and any aspect of literacy: phonology, grammar, vocabulary, writing, reading, etc etc Many students with language disorders have attentional issues but are not ADHD. Only about 30% of those with ADHD have only ADHD: the majority of those with ADHD have another "issue." Main point is to consult with a licensed speech language therapist who is well versed in language disorders, when a speech and/or language disorder might be present, and to collaborate with a team, e.g. audiologists, psychologists.
