Co-Founder, Wilson Language Training

Barbara A. Wilson, MEd, is the co-founder and president of Wilson Language Training, whose mission is to provide educators with the resources they need to help students become fluent, independent readers. Under her leadership, more than 10,000 teachers have been certified in the Wilson Reading System, which she authored based in part on her work at the Learning Disorders Clinic at Massachusetts General Hospital, where she taught adults with dyslexia how to read.

Wilson has authored several articles on literacy instruction, including “Instruction for Older Students with a Word-Level Reading Disability” in the third edition of Multisensory Teaching of Basic Language Skills, edited by Judith Birsh. Wilson advises school districts on RTI implementation and has authored two additional programs: Wilson Just Words for older students with a word-level deficit, and Fundations for students learning to read in kindergarten through grade 3.

An acclaimed speaker, she serves on several committees for the International Dyslexia Association. In 2004 she was invited to the White House to speak to the president’s domestic policy adviser on education, regarding the issue of literacy in America’s middle and high schools.
