Shannon Kelley, MAT

PhD Student in Educational Psychology

Shannon Kelley, MAT, is working toward a PhD in educational psychology at the University of Connecticut. Her research focuses on special education and literacy, with an emphasis on developing research-based reading interventions.

After witnessing the reading challenges of her ninth-grade English students, Kelley pursued training as a literacy interventionist with a focus on phonics and morphological instruction for adolescents. Since then, she has taught reading intervention classes for students in grades 2–12. She has also provided professional development and coaching for English and special education teachers.

Kelley has over a decade of classroom experience, having started her career as a 2010 Teach for America corps member in Mississippi. She taught high school English at YES Prep Public Schools and middle school special education at Two Rivers Public Charter School. She earned a BA in international affairs and sociology from The George Washington University and an MAT in secondary English curriculum and instruction from the Relay Graduate School of Education.
