Douglas Fisher, PhD, is a professor and chair of educational leadership at San Diego State University and a teacher leader at Health Sciences High. He also has served as a teacher, language development specialist, and administrator in public schools and nonprofit organizations.
Fisher is the recipient of an International Reading Association Celebrate Literacy Award, a member of the California Reading Hall of Fame, a recipient of the Farmer Award for Excellence in Writing, and a recipient of the Christa McAuliffe Award for Excellence. He also has authored over 200 books and articles about quality schooling experiences. He also serves as the Executive Editor for the Routledge Encyclopedia of Education, housed in London, and is the co-editor of the Handbook of Research on Teaching the English Language Arts (fourth ed).
Fisher is a researcher who is interested in school improvement, especially in the area of quality instruction. He received a doctor of philosophy degree in education from Claremont Graduate University.
