Kate Garcia, MEd is an Understood Teacher Fellow and a special education teacher in Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania. She has been teaching since 2009 and has taught math, science, and emotional support to students in different learning environments, including self-contained and inclusion classrooms. Garcia is a master teacher for her district and serves on district and school committees in addition to mentoring new teachers and providing professional development.
Garcia has worked with students with a variety of needs, including emotional disturbance, sensory processing issues, autism, learning disabilities, and ADHD. She specializes in developing data-driven strategies to accommodate students’ learning needs in the classroom. She also works with her team to develop meaningful transition plans for high school students.
Garcia holds a BS in business administration and a master’s degree in special education, along with certification in N–12 special education and secondary science. Garcia is enrolled in a master of educational leadership program with principal certification and expects to graduate in 2021.
