Behind the Impact - Rapid Response: Jordan Davidson

Behind the Impact: How Jordan Davidson and team helped parents and educators navigate President Trump’s first 100 days.

142 executive orders in 100 days.

In President Trump’s first 100 days, there were a dizzying number of executive orders, many of which could affect people with learning and thinking differences. This left several parents and educators with more questions than answers.

50 million students in U.S. public schools — zero clear answers.

Fifteen days into the new administration, reports of an executive order seeking to dismantle the U.S. Department of Education began to surface. Media reports attempted to address what this would mean for the department, but didn’t cover how this change could affect millions of families whose children rely on Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).

Jordan’s team meets the moment

Jordan Davidson, a lifelong journalist and author, had joined Understood.org six months earlier to lead the editorial team. She oversaw the creation of tools and resources for parents and educators of kids with learning and thinking differences like ADHD and dyslexia. She raised her hand to lead a team tasked with tracking potential policy changes and creating expert-vetted content to answer questions as quickly as they arose.

Complex topics, Understood.

The team prepared for a variety of policy shifts that could affect individuals who learn and think differently.

As a result, the team can quickly share easy-to-understand, expert-backed information. For example, the team was able to post “How changes at the U.S. Department of Education could affect neurodivergent kids” within minutes of the executive order being issued.

The more you know, the better you can plan.

In moments of uncertainty, Understood is committed to providing free, nonpartisan, expert-reviewed content so people can make the best decisions for themselves and their families.
