b. Cookies and Other Technologies
Through our Services, we and our advertising and analytics partners may collect information from your computer or other device by automated means such as cookies, web beacons, local storage, JavaScript, mobile SDKs, and other computer code. This information may include unique browser identifiers, IP address, browser and operating system information, device identifiers, other device information, Internet connection information, as well as details about your interactions with the relevant website, email or other online property (for example, the URL of the third-party website from which you came, the pages on our Sites that you visit, and the links you click on in a website). In some cases (such as with cookies), these tools involve storing unique identifiers or other information on your device for later use. We and our partners may use this information to better understand how individuals use the Services, such as by collecting data about your online activities over time and across third-party websites and providing you with content that we think will be of interest to you.
c. Information From Third Parties
We may receive additional information about you from third parties, including our service providers, affiliates, and partners, and publicly available sources, such as social media websites. We may combine the information we collect about you from these various sources with the information we collect about you in other ways as described herein and treat it in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
2. USE OF INFORMATION
We and our vendors and service providers use the information described above for the following purposes (including in certain cases, through the use of automated technologies such as LLMs and artificial intelligence):
Manage and improve the Services generally;
Administer donations and donor-advised-fund activity;

Conduct business operations such as auditing, security, fraud prevention, invoicing and accounting, analytics, and research and development;
Analyze your use of the Services (such as analyzing interactions with the Services) to understand how individuals use the Services and to improve and personalize the Services;
Protect against, identify, investigate, and respond to misuse of the Services or other unlawful behavior;
Address legal requirements;
Establish, exercise, or defend our legal rights; and
Other purposes for which we seek your consent in accordance with applicable legal requirements.
Aggregated/De-identified Information. Please note, we may aggregate and/or de-identify information we collect so that it can no longer be reasonably tied to you or your device, and we may use and disclose such aggregated and/or de-identified information to any party for any purpose.
Legal Bases for Processing. The laws in certain jurisdictions (such as those in the European Union and United Kingdom), require us to inform you of the "legal bases" on which we process your information. The legal bases for using your information as set out in this Privacy Policy are as follows:
Where we need to perform the contract we are about to enter into or have entered into with you for the Services.
Where it is necessary for our legitimate interests (or those of a third party) and your interests and fundamental rights do not override those interests (e.g., using information to secure our Services, for fraud detection and prevention, internal business operations, and similar activities).
Where we need to comply with a legal or regulatory obligation (e.g., tax reporting obligations).
Where we have your consent to process your information in a certain way.
3. DISCLOSURE OF INFORMATION
We may disclose your information as follows:
To affiliates: We may disclose information to current or future parents, subsidiaries, affiliates, and other organizations under common control or ownership with Understood (including our affiliated fiscal sponsors and fund administrators).
To vendors and service providers: We disclose information to companies that provide services to us, such as for data storage, payment processing, analytics, security, fraud prevention, billing, professional advisors, and marketing.
In connection with legal matters: We may disclose information when we believe in good faith that disclosure is appropriate due to a subpoena or similar investigative demand, a court order, or other request from a law enforcement or government agency; or as otherwise required by law.
For the protection of Understood and others: We may disclose information when we believe disclosure is appropriate in connection with efforts to investigate, prevent, or take other action regarding illegal activity, suspected fraud or other wrongdoing; to protect and defend the rights, property or safety of our organization, our employees, our partners, or others; and to enforce our contracts.
In connection with mergers or acquisitions: We may disclose information to an entity that acquires all or any part of our assets or in a merger or acquisition, or in connection with due diligence for a proposed transaction.
In other situations: We may also disclose your information in other situations where legally permitted, including in order to perform tasks or services that you have requested, or in accordance with your consent.
4. ONLINE ANALYTICS AND ADVERTISING
a. Analytics
We and our vendors may use third-party analytics services on the Services to help us understand how users engage with the Services, including Google Analytics. These parties may use cookies and other technologies to help collect, analyze, and provide us with reports and/or data. For more information about Google Analytics and how it collects and processes data, please visit: https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. b. Online Advertising
In accordance with applicable legal requirements, which may include obtaining your consent, we and our vendors may allow third-party advertising technologies (e.g., ad networks and ad servers, or other advertising partners) to place cookies, pixels, or other tracking technologies on your browser or device to collect information about you to assist in the delivery of relevant advertising on our Services and other websites you visit and other online services you use. These ads may be based on your current activity or your activity over time and across other websites and online services and may be tailored to your interests. For example, if you visit one of our websites, you may see ads for us on other websites you visit. Our Services may also contain ads about third parties or third-party products or services, and cookies and other similar technologies may be used to deliver such ads based on the websites you visit and other online activities.
For more information about tailored browser advertising and how you can generally control cookies from being put on your computer to deliver tailored advertising, you may visit the Digital Advertising Alliance’s Consumer Opt-Out link or see the National Advertising Initiative’s website to opt out of receiving tailored advertising from companies that participate in those programs. You also may opt-out from Google Analytics for Display Advertising or the Google Display Network by using Google’s Ads Settings. We do not control and make no representations about the appropriateness, functioning, completeness, or availability of these or any other third-party opt-out tools.

You can opt out of such disclosures by following the instructions in the “Online Analytics and Advertising” section above.
